Schedule
Discussing the MRI greys of internal derangement of TM Joint
Internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), particularly disc displacement disorders, represents one of the most common yet diagnostically challenging temporomandibular disorders encountered in clinical practice. This interactive session will focus on the MRI features of TMJ discal pathology and their clinical relevance. Through guided discussion of imaging findings, participants will gain a clearer understanding of complex disc displacement patterns, appropriate selection of imaging modalities for specific TMD presentations, and interpretation of key MRI characteristics. The session aims to simplify radiologic assessment of TMJ internal derangement and enhance diagnostic confidence, ultimately supporting more effective patient management.
Emerging Applications of Lasers in Dental Medicine: From diagnostic accuracy to prevention and definitive treatment
Dental lasers have been around since the 1960s. However, their popularity has been limited by the expense and lack of understanding of their unique benefits. The American Dental Association (ADA) has formally recognized surgical applications of Lasers in Dentistry in their 2023 technical bulletin #133 that serves as a major milestone for the recognition of the field. Further, there has been tremendous progress with the non-surgical applications with specific recognition of Photobiomodulation (PBM). The US FDA has formally recognized PBM in 2024 and the ADA issues a key technical bulleting #189 on PBM. Most recently, PBM insurance codes have been approved to enable their routine clinic care. This talk will go over fundamental introduction to light and its interactions with biological tissue interactions that enables its surgical and non-surgical clinical applications. A major highlight will be to outline the use of PBM in supportive cancer care and recent advances in the mechanisms and dose enabling safe and effective clinical treatments
