Tailoring Treatment in Head & Neck Osteosarcoma: Why Limb Protocols Fall Short
Tailoring Treatment in Head and Neck Osteosarcoma: Why Limb Protocols Fall Short Head and neck osteosarcoma presents distinct clinical, biological, and therapeutic challenges compared to its extremity counterpart. While treatment protocols for limb osteosarcoma are well established, their direct application to head and neck disease remains controversial. This session will examine the unique behaviour, epidemiology, and metastatic patterns of head and neck osteosarcoma, with emphasis on the complexities of achieving adequate surgical margins in anatomically constrained regions. The roles of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy will be critically evaluated in light of current evidence and ongoing debates. The discussion aims to provide a practical, site-specific framework for decision-making, enabling clinicians to adopt more tailored and effective management strategies in this challenging disease.
